CAN: The Canadian VIA2 (Sleeper Plus) [Breakfast]

Fragrant banana pecan pancakes with pure maple syrup!

The highlight of my adventure in Canada was the train ride from Vancouver to Jasper onboard The Canadian that took approximately 20 hours. My BFF and I booked upper and lower berth seats in the Sleeper Plus Class cabin. I believe there are usually two meals served on the Vancouver-Jasper route: dinner and breakfast.

However, as the departure was delayed for around 9 hours that day, we actually had three meals onboard. I shall elaborate more on the incident in my travel blog at a later date.

Transcontinental Breakfast
Taste: 5/10

I was rather disappoointed with the more comprehensive dish featuring two eggs, hash browns, bacon strips and fruits, as well as a side plate of toast. My BFF requested for scrambled eggs, which obviously weren't scrambled enough, but moist alright. The bacon strips were rather dry, while the hash browns weren't so buttery. The best item was the crispy toast with butter. Pika's advice: You may choose ham slices or sausages instead of bacon strips, and muffin instead of toast.

Banana Pecan Pancakes
Taste: 8/10

The banana pecan pancakes, on the other hand, were delightful as they were fluffy and highly aromatic. Dusted with castor sugar, they went really well with pure maple syrup. I also enjoyed the pork sausages that were springy and savoury. The orange was succulent, but the honeydew wasn't juicy.

Coffee & Orange Juice

I had a cup of black coffee that was pretty strong and aromatic, as well as a glass of chilled orange juice that thankfully didn't have too high a sugar content.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

As we were pretty early for breakfast, the dining car was still rather empty.
