CAN: The Canadian VIA2 (Sleeper Plus) [Dinner]
Dijon mustard played an important role for dinner!
It felt like it was only a moment ago that my BFF and I had our lunch. As we'd be alighting at Jasper, we were advised to have our dinner from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and we did. Even though we weren't hungry, we were really satisfied with the dishes offered for dinner.

Maple Dijon Chicken
Taste: 8.5/10
We went straight to the main courses, one of which was roasted chicken breast with pure Canadian maple syrup glaze. The white meat was firm and succulent, while the glaze was enjoyably sweet with a hint of Dijon mustard. It was accompanied by roasted baby potatoes with rosemary, as well as juicy broccoli and red peppers.
Rack of Lamb
Taste: 8/10
Cooked to medium, the rack of lamb coated with a mixture of Dijon mustard, herbs and garlic was adequately tender. Devoid of any gamey taste, it was cooked to medium with a slighly pinkish centre. The dark-coloured sauce was pretty flavourful and fragrant, thanks to rosemary, but I felt that it could be thicker.
Soup of the Day
Taste: 7.5/10
We declined any starters at first, but one of the staff members at the dining car insisted that we tried the soup of the day, which was tomato bisque. As such, we decided to share a bowl and a dinner roll before advancing to dessert. Served piping hot, the soup was pretty refreshing, but it could be slightly sweeter.
Chocolate Caramel Tart
Taste: 9/10
Between chocolate caramel tart and strawberry shortcake, we opted to share the former instead of having one each as we could hardly stuff ourselves further. Served with a dollop of whipped cream, the tart was addictively sweet and savoury. Unlike some others I've had before, it certainly didn't skimp on the sea salt caramel.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10
Has anyone been on The Canadian from Vancouver all the way to Toronto or vice versa? Pika's advice: Vegans need not worry as a vegan main course is available for each meal.
