CAN: Jasper Brewing Company

Happy marriage between blueberries and vanilla in an ale!

Founded in the spring of 2005, Jasper Brewing Company was the very first brewery established in a national park in Canada. In addition to offering a range of beers on tap, wines and cocktails, the pub whips up some light and big bites catering to different palates.

We were lucky to get the last couch seat available that afternoon.

Bearhill Ramen C$17.00 (~S$17.70)
Taste: 7/10

As my BFF and I weren't that hungry even after hiking up to the summit of Whistlers Mountain, we decided to share one main course. While the noodle could be more springy, the pork belly was marinated well. The chicken and pork broth was savoury, but it could be slightly less sour by reducing the amount of pickled vegetables.

Classic Poutine C$10.50 (~S$10.90)
Taste: 6.5/10

Since we were in Canada, we took the opportunity to have a plate of Quebec's classic. The shoestring fries were pretty much crispy, but the brown gravy could use less salt. There was an adequate amount of cheese curds, but I'd love to have more chopped spring onions.

Campfire Crème Brûlée C$9.00 (~S$9.35)
Taste: 8/10

I like the presentation of the dessert with the burnt cinnamon and cocoa powder projecting an image of the remnants of a campfire. Anyway, it tasted great without being excessively sweet, topped with cinnamon-flavoured biscuit crumbs and chocolate nut bark.

Babe Blueberry Vanilla Ale (10 oz) C$4.50 (~S$4.70)
Taste: 8/10

From the year-round brew list, I was most interested to try the one concocting blueberries and vanilla together. Having 4.5% ABV (Alcohol by Volume) and the lowest IBU (International Bittering Unit) of 12 among others in the list, it tasted mildly sweet and pleasant on my palate, even though I'm not a fan of beer.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Banff Avenue Brewing Company at Banff National Park is its sister brewery. Pika's advice: The pub serves rotating seasonal beer, so do remember to ask the server what's available during your visit.
