CAN: Longliner Seafoods

Do you prefer candied or smoked salmon jerky?

To some of us, candied salmon may sound strange. Before trying it, I was also skeptical about how it'd taste like. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back after buying some from Longliner Seafoods, one of the original tenants of Granville Island Public Market since its opening in 1979.

Candied Sockeye Salmon (100 g) C$7.70 (~S$8.00)
Taste: 8/10

I bought a small amount of smoked salmon pieces that were sweetened with brown sugar. Those sweet morsels were quite addictive, having a soft, slightly chewy texture without being too sweet. There wasn't much of the smoky fragrance though.

Smoked Salmon Jerky (100 g) C$7.70 (~S$8.00)
Taste: 6/10

I also purchased some smoked salmon jerky that was placed next to the candied salmon. While each strip had a smoky aroma that was much more intense than the candied salmon, I found it rather salty for my liking.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10

Besides the two items that I purchased, the shop sells a plethora of fresh seafood items. Pika's advice: You may also want to consider candied salmon nuggets that are sweetened with maple syrup. They also cost C$7.70 (~S$8.00) per 100 g.
