CAN: Melissa's Missteak

Have some prime rib for dinner before it runs out!

One of the most loved steak house in Banff, Canada, Melissa's Missteak was opened by the Borden family in 1978 in the existing building that was then part of Homestead Inn. It was then sold to a group of long-term employees in 1990 and has since continued to be a popular spot among locals and tourists alike.

It's impossible to find decently priced prime rib in Singapore, so my BFF and I'd planned to go to Melissa's Missteak for that.

Bread

For a start, we shared quite a big piece of bread that was airy and crunchy. The unsalted garlic butter was garlicky enough for my liking.

Caesar Salad (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

The two main courses that we ordered came with a choice of Caesar or garden salad each. Both of us went for the former, featuring crisp Romaine lettuce topped with grated parmesan cheese and croutons. A wedge of lemon was provided on the side for an acidic finish.

Slow Roasted Prime Rib (8 oz) C$35.99 (~S$37.75) (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

First of all, I have to say that even though we requested for the prime rib to be cooked medium-rare, it came to the table medium. Nevertheless, it was pretty tender and juicy, going well with the red wine reduction sauce and horseradish that didn't sting too much. The Yorkshire pudding was so-so, while the rice, our choice of side dish, was mildly flavoured.

Sirloin (6 oz) & Canadian Lobster Tail C$51.99 (~S$54.50) (Set Menu)
Taste: 8.5/10

For the surf and turf main course, the sirloin steak was cooked to medium-rare as requested, while the lobster tail was delightfully bouncy and naturally sweet. The side dish of baked potato, which was topped with sour cream and lots of spring onions, proved to be more rewarding than the rice.

The lobster tail was served with melted garlic butter, which was splendid. It was kept melted over a candle.

Hot Chocolate C$3.75 (~S$3.95)
Taste: 8/10

Unfortunately, we felt that we couldn't stomach any dessert at the end of the meal. As such, we decided to share a mug of hot chocolate that was topped with a bit too mcuh whipped cream and cocoa powder. It was adequately sweet and hot nonetheless.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The restaurant also runs a sports bar from 11.00am to 1.00am daily. Pika's advice: One of the tour guides that I met during the trip recommended having breakfast at Melissa's Missteak. The restaurant serves a few steak items in the morning too.
