SIN: Club Lounge @ InterContinental Singapore [Breakfast]

Lovely a la carte breakfast in a peaceful setting!

If you've been following the last two posts, I'm sure you're aware that I wasn't impressed by the quality of the afternoon tea bites and evening canapés served at the Club Lounge of InterContinental Singapore (5*), though I certainly enjoyed my three glasses of Prosecco. Breakfast, however, was pretty much a different affair altogether. Read on to find out more.

Eggs Béné

Let's start with three breakfast dishes exclusive to the Club Lounge. Perfectly runny golden yolk was oozing out the moment I cut through the poached egg topped with thick Hollandaise sauce and caviar. The bite-sized English muffins were toasted well. I also enjoyed the sautéed mushrooms that were juicy and fragrant. The asparagus stalk was a bit undercooked though.

Chief Executive's Dim Sum

Although not as spectacular as they sound, the steamed items - abalone pork dumpling, lobster jade dumpling and minced chicken with mushrooms and gingko nuts - were quite tasty. As for the deep-fried items, I had a preference for the breaded minced scallops wrapped around a sugarcane stick over the prawn roll.

Pancakes Delice

The stack of four buttermilk pancakes were dusted with cinnamon powder and topped with honeycomb. Even though they didn't have a perfect shape, they were some of the fluffiest I've had in a hotel setting. I was hoping that they'd be more generous with the maple syrup though. Accompanying the pancakes were some berries sitting atop blueberry compote.

Taste of Singapore

I also tried two out of the four common breakfast dishes that are also served outside the Club Lounge. Even though the dim sum trio - pork, prawn and vegetable dumplings - weren't as good as the exclusive ones, the rest of the items were delightful. The chicken congee was flavourful, the soft-boiled egg was executed well and the toast was crispy with a delightful marriage of kaya jam and butter.

A Morning Booster

I'd prefer the waffles to be fluffier, but I wasn't complaining much about them. While the scrambled eggs topped with tomato paste could use less heat during cooking, they tasted nice nonetheless. The bacon strips were moist, while the smoked salmon slices were aromatic with a smooth, delicate texture. The sour mango yogurt parfait jolted my taste buds at the beginning, but there was a nice hint of sweetness that came afterwards.

Pastry & Muffins

The croissants were delectably buttery and flaky, but the same can't be said for the danish stuffed with chocolate hazelnut spread. The chocolate muffins were moist and rich enough for my liking. The pastry basket came with three mini jars of jam by Beerenberg, as well as salted and unsalted butter.

Fruits

Withough expecting the longans at all, I was pleased with the fruits that were fresh. The grapes, as well as rockmelon and honeydew cubes, were sweet. The watermelon slices weren't so luscious though.

Cold Pressed Juice

Two kinds of cold pressed juice were offered. Both were refreshing, but if I were to choose only one, I'd go for the dark-coloured concoction of carrot, beetroot, pineapple, lime, celery and ginger named Detox. The bright-coloured brother featuring carrot, orange, green apple, celery and ginger is called Radiance.

Coffee

I put the black coffee into the acid test. If you're expecting a pun coming, indeed it left a bit of an acidic aftertaste on the tongue. Other than that, I'd certainly prefer my cup of joe to be stronger.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 9/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 8.5/10

The other two dishes that I didn't try are American and Indian Breakfast. The former features two eggs prepared to your preference, while the latter is served in a lacquer box. Pika's advice: While not listed on the menu, it's possible to request for freshly squeezed orange and apple juice.
