SIN: Club Lounge @ InterContinental Singapore [Afternoon Tea]

Afternoon tea with the most peaceful ambience ever!

An overseas friend of mine once said, "InterContinental Singapore (5*) is my favourite hotel in the sunny Little Red Dot!" In terms of comfort and service, I concur with him after my recent staycation there in one of its Heritage Suites. When the clock struck 3 o'clock, I made my way to the elegant Club Lounge steeped in Peranakan culture for afternoon tea.

I had a light lunch to prepare my stomach for the afternoon tea.

Scones

The scones, having a slightly crumbly texture, came as a surprise as the menu doesn't mention about them at all. They weren't as buttery as I'd like them to be though. Served on the side were clotted cream, blueberry jam and orange marmalade.

Upper Tier

The ciabatta with chicken tasted pretty good, thanks to the refreshing homemade pickled cucumbers. The deep-fried mantou (Chinese buns) with salmon mousse, wasabi (Japanese horseradish) caviar and osmanthus might sound intriguing, but they didn't taste as exciting.

Middle Tier

Being bouncy and succulent, the beancurd prawn rolls were the star. They were accompanied with wolfberries that lent some sweetness to the savoury snack. The deep-fried buns were a bit oily, filled with salted egg custard that wasn't runny.

Lower Tier

Topped with cream and mini chocolate balls, the petite chocolate cheesecakes were only half as decadent as expected. The Indonesian pandan kue lapis (lit. layer cake) was disappointing as well, for each slice wasn't rich and moist enough for my liking.

Moroccan Mint Tea

Served in a Peranakan ceramic pot was Moroccan mint tea by TWG, a timeless classic of green tea infused with moderately strong Sahara mint.

Mocha

I was quite excited to see the frothy mocha that came to the table. Alas, it had a tad too much chocolate in it, which ended up overshadowing the aroma of the coffee.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 9/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 8/10

The quality of the afternoon tea could certainly be improved further, but the service rendered was top-notch. Pika's advice: Feel free to ask for a second  (or third) helping.
