SIN: Alfero Artisan Gelato

"Even the Godfather loves it!"

Be natural, nice and excellent. These are the three principles that have been guiding Marco Alfero, the owner who first opened his café at Marina Square in September 2011. I chanced upon one of the branches while I was wandering inside Orchard Gateway, one of the latest additions to the vibrancy of Singapore's shopping paradise.

Waffle (2 Gelato Scoops) S$11.50 + S$0.50 (premium)

Waffle - Taste: 9/10

Avocado Gelato - Taste: 8/10

Pistachio Gelato (Premium) - Taste: 9/10

The heart-warming slab of waffle that came straight from the iron was as fresh as you could get, being light and fluffy. It could be more buttery, but I shan't complain. I found the café's gelato to be less thick compared to those I've tried elsewhere, but each scoop was by no means losing in terms of richness and taste. While the avocado flavour could be creamier, the premium pistachio flavour was the one that won my heart due to its indulgent sweetness and aroma.

Taste: 7/10

A trip to a café wouldn't be complete without getting a sip of its coffee. I pretty much appreciated the thick, milky froth on top of the coffee that had a pleasant aroma, but it came to the table somewhat lukewarm.

When you come to the café, you wouldn't be presented with a colourful view of the gelato as they're stored in metal containers to retain their freshness. Feel free to try out some of the flavours before coming to a decision. Pika's advice: Durian lovers, your favourite fruit is available in the form of gelato in the café!
