SIN: Bangkok Jam
Service was rather jammed that evening...
It's said that the traffic jam in Bangkok, Thailand is among the worst in the world. For some reason, that fact became the catalyst for the birth of Bangkok Jam, a chain of restaurants managed by the Creative Eateries group. As my mom was craving for Thai food, we went to the branch at Marina Square, which isn't far from home.
I made use of a S$25.00 voucher given by my insurance provider that was going to expire soon.

Signature Pad Thai (Seafood) S$15.90
Taste: 6.5/10
My mom ordered a plate of stir-fried rice noodle served with beansprouts, peanuts, sugar, chili powder and a wedge of lime at the side. While it was adequately sweet, sour and spicy, the rice noodle was somewhat lumpy. There were very few shrimps and squid. Pika's advice: You can opt for chicken or pork instead of seafood.
That bowl of hot and sour soup certainly had more seafood items compared to the rice noodle dish. We felt that the shrimps, squid and fish were fresh enough. While the soup looked promisingly thick, it wasn't as flavourful as expected. Having lots of tomatoes inside, it was by no means bad, but the spices could be much bolder.
Minced Beef with Basil Rice S$16.90
Taste: 7.5/10
I'm not too sure, but that might be my first time having stir-fried minced beef with basil leaves as I usually eat the chicken or pork version. Anyway, it was pretty good with the right degree of spiciness, although they could tone down on the salt level. It was served with Thai jasmine rice and a sunny-side up egg.
Red Tom Yum Soup with Seafood S$13.90
Taste: 7/10
Mango Sticky Rice S$11.90
Taste: 7/10
For dessert, we had sticky rice that was cooked well. The mango wasn't at the best stage of ripeness though, thus it wasn't as sweet as I'd love it to be. Perhaps that was the reason for the amount of coconut cream, which turned out to be enjoyably thick and sweet. The sesame seeds were a nice final touch to the dish.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 6.5/10
Service was pretty slow even though the restaurant wasn't crowded that evening. I feel that there weren't enough staff members.
