SIN: China Classic
How often do you get to see green-coloured rice?
Housed inside Chinatown Point that's just a stone's throw away from home, China Classic claims itself to be the best Cantonese restaurant around. A rather spacious restaurant, it's equipped with 3 VIP rooms with karaoke facilities. I had a quiet dinner there with my mom on a weekday.
I forgot to bring one of my little friends to take a photo with the food.

Appetiser & Chili
The braised peanuts were soft and flavourful, while the chili oil was spicy and powerful enough for my liking.
Scallop, Spinach and Egg White Fried Rice S$18.80
Taste: 7.5/10
I was hoping that the green-coloured fried rice infused with spinach juice would have more wok hei (lit. breath of the wok), but it tasted pretty good without being too heavily seasoned. They weren't stingy with the amount of scallops. As a finishing touch, dried scallops were sprinkled on top of the rice.
For want of a balanced meal, we had a plate of sautéed vegetables with just a little bit of truffle oil that didn't overpower the entire dish. The big asparagus stalks weren't that juicy, but thankfully the earthy mushrooms were. I'd love to have more of the wolfberries to sweeten up the dish further.
Deep-Fried Prawns with Mayonnaise S$22.80
Taste: 8/10
I ordered one of my most favourite modern Chinese dishes as I hadn't had that for long. The deep-fried battered prawns were springy and succulent enough, coated with mayonnaise that was sweet and creamy. Each of them was sittting on top of a slice of dragon fruit that didn't taste sweet, but I wasn't complaining about it.
Sautéed Asparagus and Assorted Mushrooms with Truffle Oil S$16.80
Taste: 7.5/10
Chilled Milk Pudding with Mango Purée S$4.80
Taste: 7.5/10
At the end of the meal, we shared a milk pudding that was pretty velvety, but could be richer in terms of taste. It came with quite a generous amount of mango purée that was adequately thick and sweet. The mango cubes on top of the pudding weren't that fresh though. Pika's advice: The polar opposite, mango pudding with milk, is also available at the same price if you prefer that.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10
I don't think it's the best Cantonese restaurant around, but the food wasn't too shabby.
