SIN: Gin Khao Bistro
Ever had sticky rice gelato or green curry gelato before?
Gin Khao (lit. Eat Rice) Bistro is one of the restaurants lining up Quayside Isle at Sentosa Cove. After enjoying a peaceful, breezy walk, my BFF and I decided to have Thai cuisine for dinner. At the point of writing, there are two other branches at One Raffles Place and SAFRA Tampines.

Paw Pia Tod S$7.80
Taste: 7.5/10
Have you ever seen such thin shrimp spring rolls before? I've certainly never had anything thinner than those, but they were by no means bad as they were adequately crunchy. The stretched shrimps, albeit rather small, were rather springy. They were served with a typical Thai chili sauce.
Guay Tiew Tom Yum S$14.80
Taste: 6.5/10
There are more stir-fried noodle dishes than soupy ones on the menu. My BFF ordered the thin rice noodle in the quintessentially Thai hot and sour soup, which is described as rich on the menu, but it turned out to be not so rich. Having said that, the seafood items, such as shrimps, mussels and squid, were enjoyably fresh.
A fan of rice, I went for one of the recommended dishes of stir-fried sliced beef with rice, which is displayed with three fire icons on the menu. Truth be told, the flavourful dish was spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. The beef was tender and the sunny-side up egg had a runny yolk. The side salad didn't come with any dressings.
Khao Nuea Phat S$14.80
Taste: 8/10
Sticky Rice Gelato with Mango S$8.80
Taste: 7/10
I'd wanted to order the unique Green Curry Gelato with Sticky Rice for dessert, but sadly it wasn't available that day. Topped with peanuts, the sticky rice gelato was akin to coconut gelato in terms of taste, but I felt that it could be thicker in terms of consistency. The mango slices were adequately sweet, but could be fresher.

Overall: 7.5/10
Pika's advice: You may want to try the bistro's specialty dish called Khao Phat Dtaeng Moe. Priced at S$14.80 for an individual portion and S$25.80 for 2 pax, it's said to be first and only fried rice topped with watermelon balls in Singapore.
