SIN: MOS Café [Delivery]

Serving rice burger since its inception in Japan in 1972~

It's been way too long since I last had something from MOS Burger, probably dating all the way back to the time I was a student. The café version exists at three different locations in Singapore at the point of writing. I didn't dine in, but ordered a number of items via a delivery platform.

Kakiage Rice Burger S$3.90
Taste: 5.5/10

Rice burger is iconic to MOS Burger, which uses short grain rice discs in place of buns. I love Japanese rice, but somehow I've never really been fascinated with the rice burger. The one that I had felt rather dense and pretty much tasteless as they didn't absorb the sweet sauce well. The deep-fried vegetable fritters weren't too oily.

Original Beef Burger S$4.75
Taste: 6/10

MOS Burger's classic beef burger didn't really look appetising, but it tasted alright. While the beef patty could be more succulent, it was rather flavourful. It was smacked together with lettuce and mayonnaise in between buns that weren't so airy and fluffy. Pika's advice: Prefer to have a slice of cheese in your burger? You can have it for an additional S$0.30.

Chicken Vegetable Curry Rice Bowl S$6.90
Taste: 6.5/10

To be frank, the curry rice bowl had way more curry sauce in comparison to the amount of chicken chunks and vegetables, such as potatoes and carrots. The curry sauce was adequately thick, but tasted rather generic. It came with a side of vegetable mix featuring chickpeas and kidney beans.

Yakiniku Rice Bowl S$7.70
Taste: 3/10

I'm sure you'd agree with me that the dish looked pretty terrible. Topped with sesame seeds, the beef slices were so dry that they looked like beef jerky. Taste wise, they were slightly sweet and savoury. Besides that, the eggs were overcooked and dry with the yolk having a greenish-grey ring around it.

Butterfly Prawns (5 pcs) S$3.50
Taste: 7/10

The side dish that I ordered turned out to be the most appetising of all. Even though they weren't that crunchy, the butterfly prawns were decent without being oily. The flour coating wasn't too thick, and it was seasoned well.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 5.5/10

I don't really have a reason to get something from MOS Burger again anytime soon. I've never been to any of its branches in Japan though.
