CAN: Prospect Point Bar & Grill

Delectable salmon glazed with 'hoisin' sauce!

My first long walk in Vancouver, Canada was at the expansive Stanley Park. Out of the few eateries spread throughout the park, my BFF and I decided to have a late lunch at Prospect Point Bar & Grill, which is located at the northern end overlooking Lions Gate Bridge.

Pardon me for the funny colours shown in the photos as we were sitting under a bright yellow parasol.

Bourbon Cream Salt Spring Mussels (Add Focaccia Bread)
C$18.00 + C$2.00 (~S$18.75 + S$2.10)
Taste: 8/10

We shared a satisfying appetiser dish of fresh mussels, though not big in size, that came with maple-flavoured bacon bits. We made it more substantial by adding four slices of focaccia bread that were quite fluffy and aromatic, absorbing the adequately rich and savoury gravy well. Pika's advice: Not a fan of cream and prefer garlic to go with your mussels? Opt for the Provençal style.

Grilled Pacific Salmon C$23.00 (~S$23.95)
Taste: 9/10

For the main course, we chose a Chinese dish of salmon glazed with hoisin sauce (Chinese sauce made of starch, soybeans, vinegar, etc.). The flavours penetrated into the deepest layers of the succulent fish, going really well with the rice that was flavoured with rice vinegar. The vegetables made the whole dish merrier.

Lemon Vanilla Panna Cotta C$9.00 (~S$9.35)
Taste: 8/10

Not that we're allergic to gluten, but we went for the only dessert marked as gluten-free in the menu booklet. Topped with fresh raspberries and blueberries, the panna cotta (lit. cooked cream) infused with lemon and vanilla was velvety with a perfectly acceptable sweet and sour balance.

Elderflower Fizz C$6.00 (~S$6.25)
Taste: 7/10

The fizzy mocktail that we had was undoubtedly refreshing, but there are a few points of improvement that I noted. The aroma of elderflower was detectable, though in competition with that of mint. Besides that, I felt that it could use a little bit more sugar to balance the acidity of the lime further.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

The food menu isn't that big, but perhaps adequate to satisfy the different palates.
