VIE: Vietnam Airlines VN592 (Business)

A cheesecake that didn't taste like one...

After enjoying my breakfast at Song Hong Business Lounge, I was getting myself ready for lunch onboard Vietnam Airlines VN592 bound for Hong Kong. That was my second time flying in the Business Class cabin of Vietnam Airlines' Airbus 321-200, the first time being onboard VN661 in late 2015.

Care to make a guess what Melon had for lunch?

Welcome Drink

Before take-off, I had a glass of champagne, while my BFF opted for apple juice.

VN Meal

Snow Fungus Salad - Taste: 8/10

As far as I can remember, that was my virgin experience having snow fungus salad while travelling on a plane. I enjoyed its crunchy texture. The prawn that came with it was quite fresh and sweet.

Garoupa in Black Soya Sauce with Rice - Taste: 8.5/10

I was really pleased with my choice of main course featuring plump fillets of garoupa doused with sweet and savoury sauce done Chinese style. While the bok choy (Chinese cabbage) retained its crunch, the carrots were rather dehydrated.

Russian Style Chicken in Cream Sauce with Italian Noodle - Taste: 7.5/10

I'm not too sure how well did the dish represent Russia, but the chicken cooked in creamy tomato sauce was succulent. The snow peas and carrots lent their natural sweetness well to the dish. The spaghetti was cooked pretty well, but perhaps it could be tossed with a bit of olive oil to make it moister.

New York Cheesecake - Taste: 5.5/10

The dessert looked appetising, but it wasn't really the case. Afterall, it didn't actually taste or have a texture of a cheesecake, but more like those packaged sponge cakes that we can easily on the shelves of supermarkets here in Singapore. Having said that, it didn't taste that bad.

Bread

From the bread basket, I only asked for one slice of garlic bread. While it was served warm, it didn't have much garlic.

Beverages

In a bid not to consume way too much sugary drinks, I asked for Vietnamese green tea to be served together with the meal. It was highly fragrant and slightly bitter, testament to its potency.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

Out of the three main courses available, the one that I didn't try was Korean Style Braised Beef with RicePika's advice: It's a pity that the airline doesn't serve its signature drinks for short-haul flights. You can try them when you fly further.
