CAN: Miku
Deliciously innovative Japanese cuisine by chef Kazuya Matsuoka!
Take note that only bar bites and beverages are served from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Pika's advice: Feel like splurging? Go for Aburi Kaiseki, C$150.00 (~S$156.30), during dinner time.
Overlooking the scenic Vancouver waterfront, Miku has been attracting a huge crowd of locals and foreigners alike since its inception in 2008. The lunch menu features mouth-watering dishes that aren't too exorbitant, yet not compromising on the quality of the ingredients used.

Sake Soy-Glazed Obie Brazier C$29.00 (~S$30.20)
Taste: 9.5/10
First of all, let's look at the most amazing dish that my BFF and I shared that afternoon. Topped with cilantro gremolata (Italian chopped herb condiment), the AAA-grade beef shank was so tender that it almost melted in my mouth. The red meat was sitting on silky and buttery potato purée, accompanied by seasonal vegetables and mushrooms.
The next few items shown are part of the Chef's Select menu, which is priced at C$36.00 (~S$37.50).
Appetiser (Set Menu)
Miso Soup - Taste: 8/10
Salad - Taste: 8/10
Salad - Taste: 8/10
The miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) soup was heart-warming, though it didn't come with tofu cubes, something that I'm too accustomed to. The leafy greens, bound by light, creamy dressing, came with a few pieces of springy shrimps were fresh.
Sushi (12 pcs) (Set Menu)
Taste: 8.5/10
What a feast for the eyes, stomach and soul! Miku takes pride in its flame-seared sushi, and I have no reservation in giving my two thumbs up. I enjoyed all of them, especially the blocky ones. The minced tuna sushi served in a spoon-like plate was seasoned with a few drops of sesame oil to make it fragrant. As for the vegetable roll, it was topped a thin slice of watermelon.
Green Tea Opera +C$10.00 (~S$10.40)
Taste: 8/10
When ordered a la carte, the green tea and dark chocolate cake costs C$14.50 (~S$15.10), but you can get it for a slightly cheaper price with Chef's Select. Though the aroma of the green tea could be stronger, it was a pretty solid dessert dish that was beautifully presented. To me, the level of sweetness was just right.
Matcha Lemonade C$5.00 (~S$5.20)
Taste: 7.5/10
As the simplest mocktail on the menu sounds interesting enough for us, we decided to give it a try. The mixture of Japanese green tea, lemon juice and sugar wasn't bad, but I was expecting it to be more fragrant. Also, I felt that the lemon juice wasn't acidic enough to bring about that highly refreshing sensation.
