SIN: Salt Tapas and Bar {REBRANDED}

Fusion dishes with 'tahini' and the likes!

UPDATE (26/11/2019): The eatery has been rebranded to The Botanic.

Salt Tapas and Bar is a spin-off of the Salt brand by Luke Mangan, an Australian celebrity chef, that prides itself in serving tapas (small savoury dishes typically served with drinks) with a twist. For one, expect Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences making their way to some of the dishes.

To be frank, I only tried one of the tapas dishes featured right below.

Charred Cauliflower S$14.00
Taste: 8.5/10

At first glance, the vegetarian dish looked pretty messy, but it tasted delicious. The cauliflowers were fresh and nicely charred to give them a smoky aroma. They were drizzled with creamy tahini (Middle Eastern sauce made of sesame paste, garlic, lemon juice and water) and topped with a variety of herbs.

Harissa-Spiced Roasted Baby Chicken S$28.00
Taste: 8/10

The main course featuring roasted baby chicken came with baby potatoes, zucchini slices and ricotta cheese topped with spring onions. The white meat was adequately juicy, rubbed with roasted red pepper paste that was pretty piquant, but it could be spicier in my opinion.

Paella S$29.00
Taste: 8/10

The quintessential Spanish rice dish was delectable too, but not the best I've ever had. The rice was simmered in tomato sauce that could be a little bit sweeter to balance the sourness further. On the other hand, the grilled shrimps were sweet. There were also cured ham shavings and chorizo (Spanish pork sausage).

Banoffee Pie S$12.00
Taste: 8/10

I believe today's post features banoffee pie for the first time in my blog, which is an English dessert pie made of buttery biscuit base, cream, banana and toffee. I enjoyed the restaurant's version that was spiked with a bit of rum and topped with crunchy pecans. The base could be further improved by making it denser.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

'Twas a nice dinner with a relaxingly dim ambience. Pika's advice: For vegetarians, there are quite a number of such tapas dishes, but there's only one main course that doesn't feature meat at all. That's Grilled Haloumi, which is priced at S$19.00.
