SIN: Winestone

Truly enjoyable pizza, if only it wasn't burnt on the edges...

Winestone is one of the restaurants housed inside Novotel Singapore on Stevens located to the north of the bustling Orchard Road. The name of the restaurant reflects the two elements of the restaurant: the huge wine selection and the signature stone boards.

Despite the dominating green colour, the dish on the left-hand side isn't a vegetarian one. The restaurant, however, does provide a selection of vegetarian dishes.

Bread

Crispy white and sourdough bread slices were given for free. They were accompanied by olive oil and balsamic vinegar, as well as some savoury mixed spices that were addictive.

Ricotta and Veal Meatballs S$14.00
Taste: 8/10

My dinner began with veal meatballs that were tender, topped with ricotta cheese that could be more generous in terms of amount. They were sitting on polenta that was creamy enough for my liking. The interplay between tomato sauce and balsamic reduction resulted in a happy activation of the different parts of the taste buds.

Sea Bass and Dolma Prawns S$26.00
Taste: 7.5/10

Topped with rocket leaves was a slab of pan-fried sea bass that was fresh and moist. Having said that, I felt that there was a bit too much of the pea mash, which probably could be served on the side.

As for the grape leaves stuffed with minced prawns, pine nuts and Basmati rice, it tasted pleasant on the tongue. I felt that there weren't enough of the savoury minced prawns though.

Pellegrino Pizza S$28.00
Taste: 7/10

It was unfortunate that pizza crust were burnt on the edges. Ignoring those, I fancied the thickness of the crust as it was neither too thick nor overly thin. The toppings of parma ham shavings, grilled mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, black olives, artichokes and cheese were enjoyably tasty.

Vanilla Panna Cotta S$14.00
Taste: 8/10

Out of the four dessert items listed in the menu booklet, I went for the Italian classic that surprisingly came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The panna cotta (lit. cooked cream) was velvety and aromatic, accompanied by fruit cubes, crushed nuts and thick salted caramel sauce.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

The ambience is elegant and lovely. Pika's advice: You may be interested in Winestone Express Platter For One comprising savoury bites with a glass of house pour red or white wine of your choice, which is priced at S$24.00.
