GUY: Oasis Café
Lovely cassava cake with nutmeg and cinnamon!
Let's move on from Suriname to its neighbouring country, which is Guyana. On the first day in its capital city, Georgetown, my BFF and I had an early dinner at 5.00pm at Oasis Café. The eatery, which is quite highly-rated online, is two blocks away from one of the famous landmarks in town: St. George's Anglican Cathedral.

Pika's advice: It seems like there are more interesting dishes served for breakfast, which are rotated daily. They're not written on the menu card, but on the blackboard inside the eatery.
Grilled Trout GY$2,800 (~S$18.45)
Taste: 8.5/10
Frankly speaking, I wasn't expecting much from the main course that I ordered. However, I was impressed by the freshness of the grilled trout that had its delightfully crispy skin attached to the firm lesh. It was a pity that the side salad wasn't fresh, but the lightly salted fries were executed well.
Podrao Brazilian Burger GY$2,000 (~S$13.20)
Taste: 7.5/10
Interested to know about the eatery's take on a typical Brazilian street food? Sandwiched in between the two burger buns brushed with butter were lettuce, spicy chicken, bacon strips and a sunny-side up egg. The taste was decent, but I was hoping that the meat could be juicier.
Cassava Pone GY$360 (~S$2.35)
Taste: 8.5/10
From all the sweet stuff displayed inside the glass counter, I purposely chose the one that didn't look very familiar. It was spot on, I must say. The indulgent Caribbean delicacy made of cassava and had a dense and gummy texture. It wasn't only rich, but also fragrant due to the use of nutmeg and cinnamon powder.

I recall seeing people playing Monopoly there while sipping on their coffee.
