SXM: Sunset Bar and Grill
Virgin experience with Johnny cakes, though probably not the usual ones!
After leaving South America, my BFF and I were back in the Caribbean. We had a few hours of layover at Sint Maarten, a Dutch overseas territory that's famous for its Maho Beach that's very close to the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport. We had brunch at Sunset Bar and Grill.

We didn't order two main courses to share as knew we'd be having lunch a few hours later onboard Air France.
South of Philly Cheesesteak US$15.00 (~S$20.50)
Taste: 8/10
We were initially looking at the grilled items, but in the end decided on a sandwich. The toasted bread came with tender roast beef shavings that were topped with caramelised red onions and melted mozzarella cheese. It was accompanied by a small cup of coleslaw that was pretty rich.
Buffalo Wings US$8.00 (~S$10.95)
Taste: 7/10
It was a pity to know that the deep-fried chicken wings didn't come coated with hot sauce. Instead, the vinegar-based red pepper sauce was served separately, along with blue cheese sauce that wasn't too aged and some celery sticks on the side. The white meat could be moister, but by no means dry.
Johnny Cakes US$5.00 (~S$6.85)
Taste: 7/10
We saw something totally unfamiliar on the menu, thus ordering what turned out to be cornmeal flatbread. Unlike the description given by many websites that Johnny cakes are akin to pancakes, the three pieces served to us were crunchy and not doughy at all. They tasted a tad savoury, but rather greasy at the same time.
Sunset Sangria US$6.00 (~S$8.20)
Taste: 7.5/10
Inexpensive as it might be as a cocktail, the Spanish wine punch was served in a plastic cup, which was such a letdown. Nevertheless, it was a bit fizzy and cold enough to counter the heat from the sun. Having said that, I was hoping that it'd be fruitier though.
