"The Rice Magician"

Many of my friends have been raving about QQ Rice, which has been around in Singapore since 2010. Truth be told, it's only recently that I tried some of its offerings from the kiosk at One @ Kent Ridge. It's been certified by Health Promotion Board for three years now to be a partner that serves whole grain options.

Jiu Cai Shrimp Oat Rice S$5.20

Taste: 7.5/10

It might look small, but the lightly fried Japanese rice with nutritious oats, corns and green peas was filling. It came with dried shrimps and chives, though not much of the latter. For the toppings, there were omelette strips, seaweed strips and chili with peanuts and anchovies.

Matcha Soya S$2.40

Taste: 7.5/10

Frankly speaking, I'm not a fan of soya milk. In fact, I used to hate it so much when I was much younger, but I can drink some now. Served piping hot, the soya milk flavoured with Japanese green tea powder wasn't too shabby. Being rather frothy, it was mildly sweet.

Dory Fish with Oat Rice S$6.20

Taste: 7/10

On another occasion, I took away a rice set with pan-fried dory fish as the source of protein. Lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, the fish could be moister. The accompanying broccoli, corns and coleslaw with julienned green apples were acceptably fresh.

Smoked Duck Rice Roll S$4.80

Taste: 8/10

Pardon me, I forgot to take a photo of the rice roll before deconstructing it. Encased in highly nutritious purple rice, which used to be served only to the royals in ancient China, were smoked duck slices, chicken floss, burdock roots, stewed eggs and Japanese cucumbers. It made a tasty snack on the go.

I shall try the other rice rolls next time. Pika's advice: You can always go for DIY Rice Roll that includes one rice base and five fillings.
